MRC Recycling is busy recycling electronics collected throughout Missouri from an eleven day period in conjunction with Earth Day. They received working and broken electronics from all over the state. The items recovered included computers, stereo equipment, microwave ovens, telephones, keyboards, lawn and garden equipment, and anything else containing a cord or battery. MRC will properly demanufacture and recycle over 1,000,000 pounds of electronic waste collected from Missouri residents during this time, while remaining in compliance with all state and federal regulations.

Co-owner Tony Krieg said, “It was a big project, but it feels good to know all the material is being properly recycled and diverted from the landfill.” MRC ensured all electronics with personal information were properly handled, which included destroying their data. The events were held in 14 different cities with items being collected from over 11,000 Missouri residents. Eight of the events were free of charge to the public because of grant funding from the St. Louis-Jefferson Solid Waste District. “It’s amazing to see how genuinely happy people are that we’re out there doing this, and feel great to know we’re helping them do some spring cleaning while also helping the environment.” say co-owner Jeff Porter.

MRC Recycling owners, Tony Krieg and Jeff Porter, had a dream of environmentally responsible e-waste recycling. They started MRC ten years ago recycling appliances. Today, with level four state certification from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, they are providing electronics recycling to schools, universities, hospitals, fortune 500 companies, as well as the state and federal government. It is their goal to provide a cost-free recycling solution that protects their clients from environmental liability and identity theft, while strictly adhering to all laws and regulations.

Hundreds Recycle Old Electronics at Jefferson City Event

MRC and St. Louis Community College on KMOV

RE: Joplin Tornado Event 2011 – Electronic Waste Recycling

To Whom It May Concern:

I am pleased to recommend Midwest Recycling Center (MRC) for any future endeavors with
your company. I worked closely with MRC and owner, Tony Krieg, during the last several
months on the USEPA Region 7 Joplin Tornado Event 2011 project and applaud MRC’s
commitment to support the recycling needs of the project.

On May 22nd, 2011 the city of Joplin, MO was devastated by a powerful EF5 tornado.
Environmental Restoration (ER) was tasked by the USEPA for the recovery of household
hazardous waste including electronic waste from approximately 7,000 structures impacted by the
storm. MRC was selected for the recycling of all recovered electronic waste including CRT
monitors, computers, stereo equipment, microwave ovens, and any electronics with a cord or
battery. MRC overcame project challenges including keeping pace with a high volume of
electronics within a short period of time as well as processing severely damaged and mangled
electronics from the storm.

MRC successfully demanufactured and recycled over 312,000 lbs of miscellaneous electronic
waste recovered during the relief effort in accordance with all state and federal regulations. I am confident that the depth of experience MRC brings to the table will ensure continued success
within the industry.

Sincerely,
Evan Wortman, CHMM
